The Scottrade Online Privacy Policy describes how Scottrade, Inc. and Scottrade Bank and Scottrade Investment Management (collectively “we”) collect, use, and share the information that we collect from United States visitors to our websites (including our mobile site and Scottrade Mobile App).

Privacy Practices With Respect to Our Account Holders

If you are a United States resident and have an account with Scottrade Inc. and/or Scottrade Bank, how we collect, use, and share your account information is governed by the Scottrade Privacy Statement. To the extent that there is any discrepancy between this Online Privacy Policy and the Scottrade Privacy Statement, defer to the Scottrade Privacy Statement.

Information We Collect

We collect both personal information and non-personal information from you online. Personal information means information that is associated with your name. We collect information from you by asking you to provide it to us on-line. We may also collect information from you automatically. For instance, we may use the following technologies:

  • Cookies. Cookies are small text files sent by a website server to (1) your Web browser and stored on your computer; and (2) email we send to you. The use of cookies helps us understand how you are using our websites and applications. Cookies help us to improve security, content, navigation and functionality. Additionally, we use cookies on our websites, the websites on which we advertise and through our emails to track advertising performance and to collect aggregate data on websites and/or through email viewing. We may also use a third-party provider to track or collect such information. We do not use cookies that contain or capture unencrypted personal information. You can manage the placement of cookies on your computer through the features found in most Internet browsers, including adjusting your browser settings to warn you before a cookie is stored or to block all cookies. You can also delete cookies that have already been placed on your computer. Consult the "Help" function of your browser to explore your options.
  • Web Beacons. We may also use web beacons to access our cookies. A web beacon is an electronic file on a Web page that allows us to count users who have visited that page and to recognize users by accessing our cookies. Further, a web beacon can be used in HTML-formatted email to determine responses to our communications and measure their effectiveness. You can avoid web beacons by turning off HTML display and displaying only the text portion of your email.
  • Internet Protocol (IP) Address. As you enter our websites, we capture and retain the IP address of the device you are using, such as a personal computer or a mobile device. Your IP address does not identify you or your personal information and is used primarily for security purposes.

How We Use Personal Information

Our primary purpose in collecting information about you is to provide you with the products, services, and information that you request. We may also decide to use information about you to track how you use our site. In addition, we may aggregate the information that you provide with the information that other users provide in order to conduct research, analysis, or studies for our own purposes (i.e. not related to providing you with specific products or services).

We may decide to send our users email. If you decide that you do not want to receive commercial emails from us, you can opt out from receiving such emails by clicking on the “unsubscribe” link provided at the bottom of every commercial email. Please note that if you choose to opt out, we will still send you email relating to specific products or services that you purchase, or email that we believe is pertinent to any communication that you have sent to us or relationship that you may have with us. If you later decide that you would like to receive commercial emails from us, you can re-add yourself to our communication list.

How We Share Information

We do not sell, rent, or license your personal information to anyone. This applies to both current and former customers. We do share personally identifiable information with other companies in the following situations:

  • Sharing Your Information with Subcontractors. We may share information with subcontractors that provide us with services. These services may include, among other things, helping us to provide services that you request; to create or maintain our databases; to research and analyze the people who request products, services or information from us; and to provide statements, transaction confirmations, or check printing. Any party with whom we share your personal information is required either contractually or by law to keep it confidential, not disclose it without your consent, and only use such information as is required for the services to be performed.
  • Law Enforcement and Legal Process. We may disclose personal information to government and regulatory agencies to comply with a lawful summons, court order, subpoena, discovery request, fraud investigation, audit, regulatory examination or other valid court, government, or regulatory agency request.
  • Business Transition. If we or any of our assets are acquired, your information may be transferred to the acquiring company.
  • Behavioral Advertisers. We may participate in behavioral-based advertising. This means that a third party may place a cookie on your browser or use a web beacon to collect information about your use of our website, so that they can provide advertising about products and services tailored to your interests. That advertising may appear either on our website or on other websites. If you would like to opt out from having the behavioral-based advertising companies with whom we have a relationship use your information for advertising purposes, you can do so by visiting the Network Advertising Initiative or Digital Advertising Alliance.

How We Protect Your Information
