Add Stop Payment

A stop payment request is a request that Scottrade Bank not honor a check or range of checks you wrote or misplaced. If you choose to stop payment for one of your checks, Scottrade Bank may return the check unpaid. There is no fee for stop payment requests placed through Scottrade Bank.

To place a stop payment request from your Scottrade Bank account:

  1. Hover over the Banking tab of your Scottrade account, and choose Stop Payment.
  2. In the account drop-down box, select the account associated with the check on which you want to stop payment.
  3. Your stop payment history for that account will appear.Click Add a New Stop Payment.
  4. Enter your stop payment information in the fields provided. You can choose to stop payment on a single check or a range of checks.

If you are placing a stop payment request for a single check:

  1. Select Single Check as the Stop Payment Type
  2. Enter the check number, the amount of payment and the payee in their respective fields.
  3. Select a reason for placing the stop payment request from the drop-down box provided.
  4. To finalize the stop payment request, click Submit.

If you are placing a stop payment request for a range of checks:

  1. Select Check Range as the Stop Payment Type
  2. Enter the first check you wish you to stop payment on in the Beginning Check Number field.
  3. Enter the last check you wish to stop payment on in the Ending Check Number field. Note: All checks with numbers between the Beginning Check Number and the Ending Check Number are also eligible for cancellation once your request has been processed.
  4. Select a reason for placing the stop payment request from the drop-down box provided.
  5. To finalize the stop payment request, click Submit

Placing Stop Payments on Online Bill Pay Checks

If the status of your online bill payment reads 'paid' but you would like to cancel the check, you may place a stop payment on the check before it's debited from your account by completing the following steps:

  1. Log in to the Trading website.
  2. Hover over the Banking tab and select Online Bill Pay.
  3. Click on the payment under View your scheduled/completed payments.
  4. Take note of the check number assigned to this payment.
  5. Hover over the Banking tab and click the Add a New Stop Payment button.
  6. Enter the stop payment information, which includes the check number, amount, payee and reason for placing a stop payment.
  7. Click Submit.

Please note, this method is only available for paper checks. To place a stop payment on an ACH check, please call the National Service Center at 1-800-619-7283.

Note: Prior to the execution of a stop payment request, you can modify the details of your pending stop payment requests or delete any stop payment request from the Stop Payment page of your Scottrade Bank Account. Once a stop payment request is being processed, you will no longer be able to change the details of your original request. To find the Stop Payment page, hover over the Banking tab and select Stop Payment.
