Quick Trade

 

React to trading opportunities quickly from any page of your account with the Quick Trade bar, located at the bottom of every page of the Scottrade© client website. Use this tool to make a trade at any time, any place - whether you're browsing the Scottrade website or another online resource.

If the Quick Trade bar is hidden, use the purple arrow in the bottom corner of your screen to expand it.

Notice the buttons in the top right corner. Clicking the arrow button will enable an auto-refresh function that updates your quote every 5 seconds. Clicking the $ button brings up your account balances, open orders, and positions to help you stay on top of your account when you trade. Clicking the Detach Quick Trade Bar button allows you to use the toolbar independently from the website. Clicking the Configure Settings button gives you options to customize to Quick Trade bar to your preference.

Placing a Quick Trade:

You can also use the Quick Trade bar to place trades by typing a symbol or company name in the field provided and:

  1. Standard Trades
  2. Click the Quick Trade button.
  3. Complete all fields, including buy/sell, the symbol you're trading, number of shares, order type, trading session, and duration. If you're placing an all or none order (AON), check the AON box. If you choose to add a condition, you will be taken to the Advanced Order entry page to complete your order.
  4. To submit the trade, click Review or Place Order. To reset the Order Entry form, click Clear Order.
  5. NOTE: If an error appears while you are completing the Order Entry form or on the Review Order page, you must review each one by clicking Next or Previous before advancing to the next step.
  6. On the Order Review page, the estimated commission and estimated total order cost will display along with a summary of your order. To continue, select either Place Order, Change Order or Cancel Order.

There are several ways to place option trades using the Quick Trade bar:

Option Trades

Using the Build Option feature:

  1. Type a symbol or company name in the field provided.
  2. Click the Build Option link
  3. Select the Call/Put, Type, Expiration Date and Strike Price; click Quote
  4. When you are ready to place the trade, click Quick Trade and the order in the quotes area information will auto-populate in the Order Entry form
  5. Select Buy/Sell and the number of contracts
  6. To submit the trade, click Review or Place Order (if Bypass Order Review page is enabled)

Using the Option Chains feature:

  1. Type a symbol or company name in the field provided and click Quick Trade
  2. Select Options
  3. Click Option Chains link and click Trade on the option you'd like to trade
  4. Select Buy/Sell and the number of contracts
  5. To submit the trade, click Review or Place Trade

Creating option trades manually:

  1. Type a symbol or company name in the field provided
  2. Click Quick Trade; the market data will automatically appear in the quotes area and the symbol will be added to the Order Entry form
  3. Select Options then complete the remaining fields in the Order Entry form
  4. To submit the trade, click Review or Place Trade

Once your order is placed, you will see the Order Confirmation page, where you can Print, Check Order Status or Place Another Trade.

To view the Margin Requirements, click the View Margin Requirements link at the bottom of the Order Review page. To view the Sold Short Margin Requirements, click the View Sold Short Margin Requirements link at the bottom of the Order Review page.

Detaching the Quick Trade bar

You have the ability to detach and reattach the Quick Trade bar, allowing you use this tool separately from the Trading website and still securely place trades. To detach it, simply click the Detach Quick Trade Bar button and then you can use it independently from the website. To reattach it, click the Reattach Quick Trade Bar (the button will be orange) or F5 (refresh) to resume using it as part of the Trading website.The Quick Trade Bar will follow the same session timeout rules as the Trading website.

If you close the Trading website with the Quick Trade bar detached, all you need to do is click the Reattach button or press F5 and your Scottrade account will open in a new web browser.

Getting Quotes

To get a quote, type the symbol in the field labeled 'Enter Symbol' and click Go.

You can research symbols in the Quick Trade bar while you are completing the order entry form; the form will not update automatically to match the new symbol you are researching.

To look up a symbol, click the magnifying glass to launch the Symbol Lookup tool. Once you identify the symbol, click Go to view the different securities listed under that symbol. Select the hyperlink of the security you would like to choose and it will automatically route you back to the Quick Trade bar, with the selected symbol displaying in the quote area.

Viewing Account Information

Click the dollar sign to view Account Balances, Open Orders and Positions. The Open Orders tab allows you to view a list of all orders that have not been executed, and the Positions tab allows you to view a list of your positions along with current market value from any page on the Trading website.

For a comprehensive listing of your balances, click the View Detailed Balances link to the Account Balance Summary under the My Account tab.

NOTE: If your balances in the Quick Trade bar don't match the balances listed on a background page ( Home Page or Balances Page) of the website, refresh your browser. Also, you can compare the time stamp on the Quick Trade bar to the timestamp on the page to determine if there are timing differences.

Customizing Your Quick Trade Settings

You can customize the Quick Trade bar in multiple ways:

  • Remember Your Order - Any order information you add to the Quick Trade bar will save as you navigate from page to page of your account. When you log out or close the Order Entry form on the Quick Trade bar, the order form will reset.

  • Customize Your Settings - Click the Configure Settings button to customize the Quick Trade bar to your preferences. Choose to monitor the top three symbols for your Quick Trade bar, select whether you'd like a microchart to display the day's performance when you view pull a quote, bypass the Order Review page when placing a Quick Trade to make the process even faster, and more.
  • Show or Hide - If you hide the Quick Trade bar then log out, it will remain hidden the next time you log in. If you show the Quick Trade bar, it will be expanded next time you log in.
