Screeners

Stock, exchange-traded fund (ETF) and mutual fund screeners allow you to use criteria matching your investment interests to search for investment opportunities fitting your personal strategy. To access the screeners, hover over Quotes & Research and click Screeners under the Tools & Ideas heading.

The Stocks, Exchange-Traded Funds and Mutual Funds tabs at the top of the page allow you to navigate between the different types of screeners. For all screeners, you can select the criteria by which you want to search using the choices provided in the Add & Remove Criteria section along the left column.

For stocks, you can screen from the following:

  • Market Segment - Search by market cap, index or exchange components, sector / industry, or international investing opportunities.
  • Fundamentals - Apply fundamental indicators such as P/E ratio, P/B ratio, distribution yield, 30-day SEC yield, alpha, beta, Sharpe Ratio, R-Squared or standard deviation.
  • Price Performance - Choose from a variety of price filters including the 52-week high and low, a price-to-S&P 500 comparison and Reuters Ratings.
  • Earnings and Dividends - Look for stocks with the performance yield that aligns your investment strategy.
  • Technicals - Apply technical indicators to your screen and use technical analysis to filter stocks.

For ETFs, you can screen from the following:

  • ETF Basics - Choose to screen by asset type, classification, Morningstar category, fund family, or exchanged-traded notes (ETNs).
  • Performance - Screen funds based on performance from one month through the last 10 years
  • Fundamentals - Apply fundamental indicators such as P/E ratio, P/B ratio, distribution yield, 30-day SEC yield, alpha, beta, Sharpe Ratio, R-Squared or standard deviation.
  • Morningstar Rating - Screen funds for rating, risk or return score, or category rank throughout various time periods.
  • Technicals - Apply technical indicators to your screen and use technical analysis to filter ETFs.

For mutual funds, you can screen from the following:

  • Mutual Fund Basics - Choose to screen by load type, availability, fees, asset type, classification or fund family.
  • Performance - Screen funds based on performance over the last month through the last 10 years.
  • Fundamentals - Apply fundamental indicators such as P/E ratio, P/B ratio, distribution yield, 30-day SEC yield, alpha, beta, Sharpe Ratio, R-Squared or standard deviation.
  • Morningstar Rating - Screen funds for rating, risk or return score, or category rank throughout various time periods.

Each criterion added to your screen will apply an additional filter to your results. For example, if you screen stocks first for price performance and then for fundamentals, the resulting number to the right of price performance will reflect all stocks matching your price performance criteria only. The number to the right of fundamentals will reflect stocks matching your criteria in both price performance and fundamentals. Apply additional criteria to narrow your search further. To remove criteria from your filtered results on the main screen, uncheck the boxes next to the criteria you want to remove.  All screener results are returned based upon previous market close values.

To remove criteria from a screen entirely, go to the Add & Remove Criteria section along the left column of your page and uncheck the criteria you want to remove.

To save the criteria you selected for a future screen, click the Save This Screen button. Click the Make This My Default Screen button to use the criteria you have currently selected as your default screener settings. Saved screens will be stored underneath the screener criterion in the left column. Predefined screens designed to help you search for specific qualities are also located in the left column. Scottrade has a variety of predefined stock screens for stocks, ETFs and mutual funds.
