Market Pulse

The Market Pulse page is equipped with charts and heat maps that measure performance and trading volume for indexes and ETFs in a quick, visual format. A heat map is a grid that uses space and shading to display volume and percent change for a security or index. The Market Pulse page enables you to use heat maps and charts to compare ETF performance to overall index performance at a glance. To research using the Market Pulse page and heat maps, hover over Quotes & Research and click Market Pulse under the Markets heading.

Index and ETF information is available for stocks, fixed income products and commodities. For stocks, charted performance is available for the S&P 500, DIJA and NASDAQ. Fixed income charts can be organized by treasury yield or key rates using the clickable headers above each chart. Commodities charts are available for gold, oil and corn.

To use the heat maps on the Markets Pulse page, refer to the color key provided above each heat map. A red-to-green color scale is used to indicate market performance, while size is used to express comparative current trading volume. Larger space correlates to a heavier trading volume. Indexes or ETFs surrounded by a light green box are up three percent or more while indexes in a bright red box are down three percent or more since the previous day's close.

To access a detailed quote with further information on the security including performance data or initiate a trade from the Market Pulse page, mouse over any of the indexes or ETFs displayed. A Screen for these ETFs link is provided under all ETF heat maps to give you easy access to the ETF screener.

In addition to charts and heat maps, you will also find the following features on the Market Pulse page:

  • Recent Quotes - A list of the last five quotes you viewed will be displayed in a Recent Quotes widget at the top of your page. You can choose to view the percent change (%) or dollar change ($) since the previous trading day's closing price for each security listed in the Recent Quotes widget. Click on any symbol to access research for that security.
  • Latest News Headlines - The most recent market news will be reported in the Latest News Headlines widget on the right column of your page. Click any headline to view the corresponding news story.
  • Top Stories - The Top Stories widget in the lower right column of the page is dynamically populated to include the news events or topics that are appearing most frequently in today's news. Click View More Headlines to expand the selection of articles available.
