Balances

The Balances window provides immediate access to the current account balances of all your linked accounts so you know exactly how much you have available for trading at any given time. Balances will display differently based on your account type: cash, margin, pattern day trading. If you have a Scottrade Bank account, your bank account balance will be reflected in the Positions window.

There are two ways to access the Balances window:

  • On the Main Menu at the top of the ELITE platform, point to Account and then click Balances.

  • On the Account menu at the top of the ELITE platform, click Balances.

Viewing Deposits

To make a deposit, click the Deposit link to the right of the Account drop-down menu.

This action will redirect you to the Deposit section of Scottrade.com where you can quickly make a deposit into your Scottrade account.

Account Types

Margin Accounts

  • Total Brokerage Account Value - The total value of your brokerage account is calculated as the sum of your positions market value plus your cash balance.
  • Positions Market Value - The market value of all the positions in your account is calculated as the sum of your stocks, mutual funds, CDs & bonds market value plus your options market value.
  • Cash Balance - The total amount of funds in the cash portion of your account is called your brokerage cash balance.
  • Buying Power Marginable Securities - This balance shows the funds in your account that may be used for the additional purchase or short selling of marginable securities. Any funds used in excess of the margin settled credit balance are a loan and will be charged margin interest.
  • Buying Power Non-Marginable Securities - This balance shows the funds in your account that may be used to purchase non-marginable securities. Any funds used in excess of the margin settled credit balance are a loan and will be charged margin interest.
  • Funds Applied to Open Buy Orders - This balance is the total amount of funds that will be removed from your account if all of your open buy orders are executed.

Cash Accounts

  • Total Asset Value - The total value of your brokerage account is calculated as the sum of your positions market value plus your cash balance.
  • Positions Market Value - The market value of all the positions in your account is calculated as the sum of your stocks, mutual funds, CDs & bonds market value plus your options market value.
  • Cash Balance - The total amount of funds in the cash portion of your account is called your brokerage cash balance.
  • Funds Available for Trading - This balance indicates the total funds available for purchasing stocks.
  • Settled Funds Available for Trading - You can use settled or unsettled funds for buying stocks. If you wish to use only settled funds to purchase stocks, view the settled funds available for trading balance.
  • Funds Applied to Open Buy Orders -This balance is the total amount of funds that will be removed from your account if all of your open buy orders are executed.

Day Trading Accounts

  • Total Brokerage Account Value - The total value of your brokerage account is calculated as the sum of your positions market value plus your cash balance.
  • Positions Market Value - The market value of all the positions in your account is calculated as the sum of your stocks, mutual funds, CDs & bonds market value plus your options market value.
  • Cash Balance - The total amount of funds in the cash portion of your account is called your brokerage cash balance.
  • Current Day Trading Buying Power (DTBP) - Your DTBP is the amount of money you have available in your account to place day trades on a given trading day, and it only applies to margin accounts classified as Pattern Day Trading accounts with $25,000 or more in equity.
  • Account Maintenance Excess - Your Account Maintenance Excess balance is the amount of marginable equity above the minimum account requirements as of the previous day's closing prices.
  • Beginning of Day DTBP - Your Beginning of Day DTBP is equal to four times the amount of your Account Maintenance Excess as of the previous day's closing prices. This is the total amount of funds you have available for intraday trading throughout the day.
  • Today's Impact on DTBP - Your Today's Impact on DTBP balance is a calculation of the net impact of today's trades, using execution prices. It includes all opening transactions on a position during the current trading day. If you close out a position that you opened earlier in the day, or participated in a day trade, the impact will be reduced by the amount required for the opening transaction. Today's Impact on DTBP reduces the Current DTBP of your account.
  • Funds Applied to Open Buy Orders - This balance is the total amount of funds that will be removed from your account if all of your open buy orders are executed.
