Compare Multiple Symbols

With the ability to add multiple symbols to the same Chart, you can compare the performance of symbols with similar characteristics to see which ones best fit your strategy. The charts in ScottradeELITE allow you to:

  • View up to 10 symbols on one chart.
  • See the Y-axis percentage values (%) for each symbol added to the chart.
  • See the Y-axis dollar values ($) for each symbol removed from the chart.
  • View indicators that are valid for the primary symbol only.
  • Select a different symbol as a primary symbol in the chart.

Note- Indicators added to the chart are valid for the primary symbol only.

Adding Symbols to the Chart Frame

To add multiple symbols to the same Charts tab or frame, follow the steps below.

  • In the Enter Symbol box, type each stock or ETF symbol you want to monitor, separated by a comma, and then click Go. For example: AEW, ALI, AQV, XYZ.

Note- When the second symbol is added, the Y axis changes from a dollar value ($) to a percentage (%).

  • To add a symbol instead of replacing any existing symbols in your chart, type a plus sign (+) before the stock or ETF symbol you want to monitor, and then click Go. For example: Type + XYZ to add the XYZ symbol data to the existing symbol data in the chart window.

Note- Typing a symbol without the plus sign (+) replaces the first primary symbol.

Setting a Different Primary Symbol

Any indicators added to the chart frame will be valid for the primary symbol in the chart tab. To select a different symbol as the primary symbol:

  1. Right-click in the chart window.
  2. On the shortcut menu that appears, point to Set Primary Symbol and then click the symbol you want to set as your primary symbol.

The chart window displays the data for new primary symbol and other symbols.

Setting the Symbol Data Colors

To change the colors of a symbol displayed in the Chart tab or frame, follow the steps below:

  1. Right-click in the chart window.
  2. On the shortcut menu that appears, point to Set Properties…, and then click the symbol you want. The Configure Chart Tab dialog box appears.
  3. In the Color Settings area, make your selections.

Removing Symbols from the Chart Frame

There are two ways to remove symbols from the Charts frame.

In the Enter Symbol box:

  • Select the symbol you want to remove, press Delete and then click Go or press Enter.
  • Type a minus sign before the symbol you want to delete and then click Go or press Enter.

The chart window displays the updated chart data.

Note- Removing the first symbol makes the second symbol the primary symbol.
