Browser Configuration

For optimal performance of Scottrade trading tools, please configure your browser to the following settings:

Windows Browser Settings

Internet Explorer 6.0

Setting Cache
  1. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
  2. Click the General tab.
  3. In the Temporary Internet Files area, click Settings.
  4. Under Check for Newer Versions of Stored Pages, select Every Visit to the Page.
  5. To exit the window, click OK.
  6. In the Temporary Internet Files area, click the Delete Cookies button.
  7. Click OK, and then click OK again.
  8. Click the Delete Files button, select Delete All Offline Content, and then click OK.
Enable Cookies
  1. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
  2. Click the Privacy tab.
  3. Click the advanced button.
  4. Select the Override Automatic Cookie Handling option.
  5. Select the Always Allow Session Cookies option.
  6. To exit, click OK.

AutoComplete

  1. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
  2. Click the Content tab.
  3. Under Personal Information, click the AutoComplete button.
  4. Make sure all boxes are disabled.

If you had any of the options selected, clear them, and then:

  1. Click the Clear Forms button.
  2. Click the Clear Passwords button.
  3. Click OK.
Content Settings
  1. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
  2. Click the Content tab.
  3. In the Content Advisor area, look for either Enable or Disable. If you see Enable, leave this area alone. However, if you see Disable, click this button and enter your security password (someone would have had to turn this feature on and set up a password). The Content Advisor most often causes problems viewing our login screen and may also kick you out of your account unexpectedly.
Security Settings
  1. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
  2. Click the Security tab.
  3. Click the Custom Level button.
  4. In the Reset Custom Settings area, select Medium from Reset To list.
  5. Click the Reset button.
  6. When asked if you want to change your Security settings, click Yes.
  7. To exit the Custom Level area, click OK.
  8. To exit Internet Options, click Ok again.
  9. Click the Advanced tab.
  10. Scroll down to the HTTP 1.1 settings:
    • Make sure Use HTTP 1.1 is selected.
    • Make sure Use HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections is cleared.
  11. Scroll down to the Security settings and make sure that the following settings are selected:
    • SSL 3.0
    • Enable Profile Assistant
    • TLS 1.0
  12. Click OK.

Internet Explorer 7.0

Setting Cache
  1. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
  2. In the Browsing History area on the General tab, click Delete.
  3. In the Temporary Internet Files area, click Delete Files. When the confirmation message appears, click Yes.
  4. In the Cookies section, click Delete Cookies. When the confirmation message appears, click Yes.
  5. Click Close to return to the General tab.
  6. In the Browsing history area on the General tab, click Settings.
  7. Make sure that the Check for Newer Versions of Stored Pages option is set to Every Time I visit the Webpage and then click OK.
  8. In the Tabs area, click Settings.
  9. In the When a Popup is Encountered area, select Always Open Pop-ups in a New Window.
  10. To return to the General tab, select ok.
  11. To exit Internet Options, click OK.
Enable Cookies
  1. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
  2. Click the Privacy tab.
  3. Click the Advanced button.
  4. Select the Override Automatic Cookie Handling option.
  5. Make sure both settings are set to Accept.
  6. Select the Always Allow Session Cookies option.
  7. Click OK.
  8. In the Pop-up Blocker area, clear the Turn on Pop-up Blocker option or configure it forhttps://trading.scottrade.com/
AutoComplete
  1. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
  2. Click the Content tab.
  3. In the AutoComplete area, click Settings.
  4. Make sure all checkboxes are cleared. If any of the boxes are selected, disable them before continuing.
  5. Click the General tab.
  6. In the Browsing History area, click Delete.
  7. Under the Form Data area, click Delete Forms.
  8. Click Yes.
  9. Under the Passwords area, click Delete Passwords.
  10. Click Yes.
Content Settings
  1. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
  2. Click the Content tab.
  3. In the Content Advisor area, look for the Enable or Disable button. If you see Enable, leave this area alone. However if you see Disable, click this button and enter your security password (someone would have turned this feature on and set up a password). The Content Advisor most often causes problems viewing our login screen and may also kick you out of your account unexpectedly.
Security Settings
  1. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
  2. Click the Security tab.
  3. Click the Custom Level button.
  4. In the Reset Custom Settings area, select Medium from Reset To list.
  5. Click the Reset button.
  6. When prompted to change your Security settings, answer Yes.
  7. To exit the Custom Level area, click OK.
  8. To exit Internet Options, click OK again.
  9. Click the Advanced tab.
  10. Scroll down to the HTTP 1.1 settings:
    • Make sure Use HTTP 1.1 is selected.
    • Make sure Use HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections is cleared.
  11. Scroll down to the Security settings and make sure that the following settings are selected:
    • SSL 3.0
    • TLS 1.0
  12. Click OK.

Internet Explorer 8.0

Cache Settings
  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Click the Tools Menu, and then click Delete Browsing History.
  3. If you do not want to delete the cookies and files associated with websites in your Favorites list, select Preserve Favorites website data.
  4. Select the Temporary Internet Files and History options.
  5. Click Delete.
Enable Cookies

By default your browser's cookie settings are configured correctly. If you happen to encounter any session issues while browsing, please follow the directions.

From the upper right-hand side at the top of your screen, click on:

  1. Tools
  2. Internet Options
  3. Privacy tab
  4. Click on the Advanced button down below
  5. Check "Override automatic cookie handling"
  6. Make sure both settings are set to "Accept"
  7. Check "Always Allow Session Cookies"
  8. Click OK at the bottom to exit
  9. The bottom section is called "Pop-up Blocker" Please make sure to Uncheck "Turn on Pop-up blocker" or configure it for HYPERLINK https://trading.scottrade.com
Setting AutoComplete Features.
  1. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
  2. Click the Content tab.
  3. In the AutoComplete area, click Settings.
  4. Make sure all checkboxes are cleared.
  5. Click OK, and then click OK again.

Pop-ups

Pop-up Blocker is turned on in Internet Explorer by default. To turn it off or on, follow these steps:

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Click the Tools button, and then click Pop-up Blocker< span="">.
  3. Do one of the following:
    • To turn off Pop-up Blocker, click Turn Off Pop-up Blocker< span="" off="" pop-up="">.
    • To turn on Pop-up Blocker, click Turn On Pop-Up Blocker< span="" pop-up="" on="">. < span="" pop-up="" on="">
Java Settings
  1. Click Start, type Internet Options.
  2. Click the Advanced tab.
  3. Scroll down to the Browsing settings and make sure that Enable Third-party Browser Extensions is selected.

Mozilla Firefox 3.0

Cache Settings
  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  2. Select the Privacy panel.
  3. In the Private Data area, click Settings.
  4. Make sure all options are selected except Saved Passwords, and then click OK.
  5. Click the Clear Now button.
  6. In the message box, click Clear Private Data Now.
Cookie Settings
  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  2. Select the Privacy panel.
  3. In the Cookies area, make sure the Accept Cookies from Sites option is selected.
  4. In the Keep Until list, select I Close Firefox.
Setting AutoComplete Features
  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  2. Select the Privacy panel.
  3. In the History area, make sure the Remember What I Enter in Forms and Search Bar option is selected.

Security Settings

1. On the Tools menu, click Options.

2. Select the Security panel.

3. In the Passwords area, make sure the Remember Passwords for Sites option is not selected.

Advanced Settings

1. On the Tools menu, click Options.

2. Select the Advanced panel.

3. Click the Network tab.

4. In the Offline Storage area, click Clear Now.

5. Click the Encryption tab.

6. In the Protocols area, make sure that SSL 3.0 and TSL 1.0 are selected.

Pop-ups and Java Settings

1. On the Tools menu, click Options.

2. Select the Content panel.

3. Make sure Block Pop-up Windows is cleared.

4. Make sure Enable JavaScript is selected.

5. Make sure Enable Java is selected.

Mozilla Firefox 3.5 and 3.6

Cache Settings

1. On the Tools menu, click Options.

2. Select the Privacy panel.

3. In the History area, select Use Custom Settings for History from the Firefox Will list.

4. Place a checkmark in the box for Clear History When Firefox Closes.

5. Click the Settings button to the right of the checkbox.

6. Select all items in the History section, including Saved Passwords and Offline Website Data.

7. Click OK.

8. To apply the changes, click OK again.

Cookie Settings

1. On the Tools menu, click Options.

2. Select the Privacy panel.

3. In the History area, select Use Custom Settings for History from the Firefox Will list.

4. Make sure Accept Cookies from Sites and Accept Third-party Cookies are checked.

5. In the Keep Until list, select I close Firefox.

6. To apply the changes, click OK.

Clearing All Browsing History Quickly

1. On the Tools menu, click Clear Recent History.

2. In the Time Range to Clear box, select Everything.

3. In the Details list, select all items.

4. Click Clear Now.

Security Settings

1. On the Tools menu, click Options.

2. Select the Security panel.

3. In the Passwords area, make sure that Remember Passwords for Sites is cleared.

4. Click OK.

Advanced Settings

1. On the Tools menu, click Options.

2. Select the Advanced panel.

3. Click the Network tab.

4. In the Offline Storage area, click Clear Now.

5. Click the Encryption tab.

6. In the Protocols area, make sure that SSL 3.0 and TLS 1.0 are selected.

Pop-up and Java Settings

1. On the Tools menu, click Options.

2. Select the Content panel.

3. Make sure Block Pop-up Windows is selected.

4. Click Exceptions. Add www.scottrade.com and trading.scottrade.com by clicking the Allow button.

5. Make sure Enable JavaScript is selected.

6. Make sure Enable Java is selected.

Decreasing Cache Size

1. Open the Tools menu, and click Options.

2. In the Options box, click Advanced.

3. Click the Network tab.

4. In the Offline Storage section, change Use up to 50 MB of space for the cache to use 10MB.

5. To apply the changes, click OK.

AOL 9.0

Setting Cache

1. On the horizontal toolbar at the top of your window, click Settings. The Settings: Essentials dialog box appears.

2. Click Internet [Web] Options. The AOL Internet Properties window appears.

3. Click the General tab.

4. Under Temporary Internet Files, click Settings.

5. On the Settings page, make sure Every visit to the page is selected.

6. Click OK.

7. When you return to the General tab, click Delete Files to clear the cache.

8. Click OK.

Setting Cookies

1. On the horizontal toolbar at the top of your window, clickSettings. The Settings: Essentials dialog box appears.

2. Click Internet [Web] Options. The AOL Internet Properties window appears

3. Click the Privacy tab.

4. Click Advanced.

5. Check Override automatic cookie handling.

6. Make sure both settings are set to Accept.

7. Click OK to exit the window.

Disabling AutoComplete

We recommend that you do not use AutoComplete when it prompts you to save the password. If you save the password using AutoComplete and you change the password under My Account - My Information & Preferences in the site, you may receive an error the next time you try to use your new password. You can change this password in Windows when you receive the error, but it is not a good idea to save any password to your system.

1. On the horizontal toolbar at the top of your window, clickSettings. The Settings: Essentials dialog box appears.

2. Click Internet [Web] Options. The AOL Internet Properties window appears.

3. Click the Content tab at the top.

4. Under Personal Information, click the AutoComplete.

5. Make sure all boxes are disabled (unchecked).

6. If you had any of the boxes checked, click the Clear Passwords button.

7. Click OK.

Security Settings

1. Click Start.

2. Click Settings.

3. Click Control Panel.

4. Click Internet Options

5. Click the Advanced tab at the top.

6. Scroll to the bottom under Security and make sure thatEnable Profile Assistant, Use SSL 2.0, and Use SSL 3.0 are all checked.

7. Click OK to exit the window.

Scripting and META Refresh Settings

1. On the horizontal toolbar at the top of your window, clickSettings. The Settings: Essentials dialog box appears.

2. Click Internet [Web] Options. The AOL Internet Properties window appears.

3. Click the Security tab.

4. Make sure the Internet Globe is highlighted, and click theCustom Level button.

5. Scroll down to Miscellaneous.

6. Under Allow META Refresh, select Enable.

7. Scroll down to Scripting.

8. Set all three settings-Active Scripting, Allow Paste Operations via Script, and Scripting of Java Applets-to Enable.

9. Click OK, and then click Yes to the pop-up confirming that you want to make these changes.

Pop-Up Blocker

1. Click Settings. The Settings: Essentials dialog box appears.

2. Click Pop-Ups.

3. Check the box that says Suppress pop-ups from Web sites I visit using AOL software.

4. In the box that says Allow Only These Sites (Suppress All Others), click Add and type http://www.scottrade.com.

You can also set the blocker for specific sites when you are accessing any Web page, a menu is available at the bottom of the window to allow pop-ups from that site. Click the menu, and select Allow pop-ups from this site.

Note: If you enable the Advanced Spam Filter, this could block Stock Alert e-mails and Execution Notification e-mails.

Google Chrome 3.0 and higher

Disabling Password Saving

1. Click the Tools menu.

2. Select Options.

3. Click the Personal Stuff tab.

4. In the Passwords area, select Never Save Passwords.

5. Click Close.

Setting Cookies to Allow All Cookies

1. Click the Tools menu.

2. Select Options.

3. Click the Under the Hood tab, and find the Privacy area.

4. In the Cookie Settings list, select Allow local data to be set. This is the default setting in Google Chrome.

5. Click Close.

Deleting Browsing History

1. Click the Tools menu.

2. Select Options.

3. Click the Under the Hood tab.

4. Click Clear Browsing Data.

5. Select the checkboxes for the types of information you want to remove.

6. Use the "Clear data from this period" menu to select the amount of data you want to delete.

7. Click Clear Browsing Data.

Disabling Autofill

1. Click the Tools menu.

2. Select Options.

3. Click the Personal Stuff tab.

4. Click Autofill Options

5. Clear the "Enable Autofill to fill out web forms in a single click" checkbox.

6. Click Close.

Safari 4 and 5 for Windows

Setting Pop-up Windows

Choose the Action menu, and then select Block Pop-Up Windows so that a checkmark appears next to it.

Clearing Cache

Press Ctrl+Alt+E, and then click Empty.

Setting Cookies

1. Choose the Action menu, and click Preferences.

2. Click Security.

3. Under Accept Cookies, enable Always or Only from sites I visit.

Enabling Java

1. Choose the Action menu, and click Preferences.

2. Click Security.

3. Under Web Content, select the following settings:

  • Enable plug-ins

  • Enable Java

  • Enable Javascript

1. On the Safari menu, click Preferences.

2. Click the Security button.

3. In the Accept Cookies section, enable the Always option or enable the Only From Sites You Navigate To option.

Clearing Cookies

1. On the Safari menu, click Preferences.

2. Choose Privacy.

3. Click the Show Cookies button.

4. Select Remove All.

5. From the Safari menu, choose Quit Safari. Reopen your browser to implement the changes you selected.

Enabling Java

1. On the Safari menu, click Preferences.

2. Click the Security button.

3. Select the following settings:

  • Enable plug-ins
  • Enable Java
  • Enable JavaScript

Mozilla Firefox 3.0 for Mac

Cache Settings

1. On the Firefox menu, click Preferences.

2. Click the Privacy panel.

3. In the Private Data area, click Settings.

4. Make sure everything is selected except Save Passwords, and then click OK.

5. Click Clear Now, and then click Clear Private Data Now.

Cookie Settings

1. On the Firefox menu, click Preferences.

2. Click the Privacy panel.

3. In the Cookies area, make sure Accept Cookies from Sites is selected.

4. In the Keep Until list, select I Close Firefox.

7. Make sure Clear History When Firefox Closes is selected.

8. Click the Settings button to the right of Clear History When Firefox Closes.

9. Make sure Cookies and Cache are selected.

10. Click OK, and close the Preferences window.
