Extended Market Hours
The U.S. markets are open from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. ET, but investors have the opportunity to place trades outside of regular market hours during pre-market and after-hours trading sessions. Trading hours outside the regular market day are called extended hours.
On a normal trading day, pre-market trading will be from 6 a.m. to 9:28 a.m. ET, and after-hours trading will be from 4:02 p.m. to 8 p.m. ET. For a full listing of trading hours on market days and half-day holidays, including how to place stock orders during these hours, read Regular & Extended Hours Stock Trading.
Order Routing During Extended Trading Hours
During extended hours, Scottrade routes orders to all electronic displayed quotes, not to a single exchange or venue. When you search for a quote during extended trading hours, you will see a consolidated quote from all available electronic disseminating market centers.
Trading in extended hours can present different benefits and risks than trading during the regular market day. For more information, see Potential Risks of Extended Hours Trading.
