How the Program Works

What is the Scottrade Referral Program?
This referral program provides you with a simple way to tell your friends and family about Scottrade. When your friends apply for and open an eligible account and use an eligible Scottrade Referral Program code, both the referrer and the referee will receive three free online trades to be used during the next three online equity or option, market or limit, good until cancelled (GTC) or day orders placed for stocks priced above $1. All other fees still apply, including, but not limited to, commissions and/or fees charged for trades in securities priced below $1. Please keep in mind that an open order that does not execute, an order that is placed and later cancelled or expires, or an order that is modified, may “lock up” a free trade. These “locked” trades will be given back to the client the next business morning before the market opens.
How do I participate in the Scottrade Referral Program?
After logging in to an eligible Scottrade account, you may click the “Refer Someone You Know” link found in the Referral Program section on the Home Tab and complete the referral form to send a personalized email to your friends. Or, click the “Print referral card” link found in the Referral Program section on the Home Tab to obtain your Scottrade Referral Program code that you can give to your friends. Posting of your Scottrade Referral Program code on Scottrade-managed web properties (i.e. Scottrade's Facebook page, YouTube channel, etc.) is prohibited.
How do my friends receive a referral?
If you use the “Refer Someone You Know” link and provide email addresses, your friends will receive your referral by email. Or, if you use the “Print referral card” link, you can personally give your Scottrade Referral Program code to your friends.
How many friends can I refer?
There is no limit on the number of friends you can refer or the number of free trades they will receive. Keep in mind that credits will only be received if the friends open their accounts.
What if a referred friend is already a Scottrade client?
The Scottrade Referral Program is intended to bring new clients to Scottrade. If a referral recipient is an existing client, s/he should participate in this program by providing new referrals rather than receiving them.
How long will it take to get the Scottrade Referral Program trade credits?
You will receive your three trade credits at roughly the same time as your friend opens his account, so it should be seen almost immediately. However, 24 hours should be allowed before making any inquires.
Opening an Account
What types of Scottrade accounts are eligible?
All online accounts are eligible for the Scottrade Referral Program, with the exception of custodial and employee accounts.
What is the minimum initial deposit one must make to open a Scottrade account?
A $2,500 initial deposit is required. An account with margin must maintain a $2,000 balance. The account must remain open and funded for at least six months.
How do I know when free trades are received?
You can check your free trades balance by logging in to their accounts. There you will find the number of “Free Trades Available” in the Referral Program section on the Home Tab.
Do I continue to get three free online trades if my friend opens additional accounts?
No. The Scottrade Referral Program is intended to bring new clients to Scottrade. You will receive free trades only for the first account each friend opens.
Can I request which account I want the trade credits to be applied to?
The trade credits will be applied to the account that the client selected. Scottrade Referral Program codes are unique to each account; therefore, you will need to log in to your selected account that you want the free trades credited to. From the Referral Program section on the Home Tab, you can either select “Refer Someone You Know” to refer them by email or select “Print referral card” to personally give to your friends. Once the trades are credited to one account, they cannot be transferred to another account.
Can I request which order I want the free trade credits to be applied to?
No, the trade credits will automatically be applied to the next three online equity or option, market or limit, good until cancelled (GTC) or day orders placed for stocks priced above $1. All other fees still apply, including, but not limited to, commissions and/or fees charged for trades in securities priced below $1. You will not be able to save them for a future date, or chose which orders you would like to receive for free.
Program Expiration Date
When does this program expire?
The Scottrade Referral Program currently has no expiration date. We reserve the right to end this program at any time. However, you will be able to check your accrued balance by logging in to your account and view “Free Trades Available” in the Referral Program section on the Home Tab.
Do the free trades expire?
You have six months from the date awards are given to use the free trades. You can log in to your account and view “Free Trades Available” in the Referral Program section on the Home Tab to see the actual date the free trades will expire. After six months, the free trades will automatically expire.

Does Scottrade keep my information private?
Can I unsubscribe from emails related to the Scottrade Referral Program?
You can let us know if you would like to unsubscribe from these emails by filling out a Scottrade Referral Program Unsubscribe Form. When unsubscribing, you have the choice of restricting a particular individual from sending you any more emails regarding the Scottrade Referral Program or restricting anyone from sending further Scottrade Referral Program emails. Please note that this unsubscribe service applies only to the Scottrade Referral Program.
